Tucked into the ancient village of Clearwell on the edge of the Forest of Dean, the restaurant at Tudor Farmhouse has earned a reputation that reaches well beyond the local area. Holding 2 AA Rosettes and described by Tatler as a "culinary oasis," it is one of the finest dining destinations in Gloucestershire, open to both hotel guests and non-residents alike. The kitchen is driven by a deep commitment to the landscape on its doorstep. Menus are built around locally sourced and foraged seasonal ingredients, with produce drawn from within the local area wherever possible, supplemented by eggs from the hotel's own flock of ducks and chickens. The result is cooking that genuinely reflects the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley on the plate. Dogs are warmly welcome to join their owners for meals in the conservatory or garden, where you can enjoy the full restaurant menu in relaxed surroundings. A dog bath with hot water is available on site for muddy paws, and several walking routes set off directly from the hotel, making the restaurant a natural destination to head for after a walk through the Forest. The Forest of Dean itself offers 27,000 acres of ancient woodland with well-marked trails in every direction, and the Wye Valley, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is just minutes away. Wild boar, fallow deer and exceptional birdlife make the walking here genuinely memorable, and the restaurant at Tudor Farmhouse makes an equally memorable place to finish the day. For a long lunch or dinner that does justice to one of England's most beautiful and underexplored corners, this is a table worth booking.
