Maiden Newton is about 2 miles away and has a newsagent, pub/restaurant, petrol station, general store, bakers, post office and a coffee shop. This popular part of west Dorset is ideal for exploring Dorchester, 6 miles away, Weymouth, Portland and the famous World Heritage Jurassic Coast.
The county town of Dorchester has many family attractions including The Dorset County Museum, Dinosaur Museum, Tutankhamun Museum, Dorset Teddy Bear Museum, Terracotta Warriors and plenty of restaurants and shops. Further afield, discover Monkey World and The Tank Museum, or enjoy scenic walking along this famous coastline around Lulworth Cove or Chesil Beach, and on to Bridport, West Bay and Lyme Regis. Nearby Weymouth with its sandy beach offers a huge range of sporting activities from boating, sailing, swimming, windsurfing and fishing, or maybe a trip on the ferry to Guernsey or France from Poole harbour. Abbotsbury also makes for a good day out, with its renowned Swannery and Gardens. Also within easy driving distance are Sherborne with its two castles, the Cerne Abbas giant engraved on the hill and many historical places, such as Athelhampton House and Gardens, Minterne Gardens, Mapperton House and Gardens, Forde Abbey and Gardens, Parnham House and Kingston Maurwood.
