Shutford is approx 5 miles from Banbury and 7 miles from Chipping Norton. It is a small village with a traditional Pub, Village Hall and Parish Church dating back to the 14th century built in the transitional style between Norman and Early English Gothic. Its name is derived from Scytta's Ford & the Plush and shag weaving industry established here in 1747 has become the village's main claim to fame. By 1910 the only handwoven livery plush manufacturer in the world, “Wrench's”, was based in Shutford - they supplied plush for the coronation of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia in 1896, decorations at Windsor Castle for Queen Victoria & liveries for royal courts in Europe and the embassies of China, Japan, Persia and the United States.

NEARBY: For those guests wanting to explore the surrounding areas during their stay in the Cotswolds here are a few suggestions - the sleepy villages of honey-coloured stone and lively market towns of Chipping Norton, Moreton-in-Marsh, Shipston-on-Stour or Stow-on- the-Wold are all within easy reach as are the busier destinations of Bicester Village, Oxford, Stratford-on-Avon, Warwick and Cheltenham. Alternatively visit stunning Palaces, Castles and Country Houses; walk and ride (horses and bikes) along rural historic trails, footpaths and bridleways to explore ancient woodlands and wild flower meadows or simply enjoy a game of golf or tennis or even take to the skies in a glider or helicopter/light aircraft for an altogether different view.

Reem & Family (Stayed In: October 2024), October 2024

“...The place is very beautiful, quiet & excellent for meditation & rest. We only spent two days unfortunately, but we will come back again to spend more time. Patricia & Alastair (the hosts) are the kindest people I have ever dealt with. My family & I felt their warm welcome & their help with the smallest services. The best. I recommend this place. Thank you a lot ...”

Alice & Family (Stayed In: October 2024), October 2024

"...We had a wonderful weekend family gathering at Monastery Barn. The house really did exceed our expectations & we felt so at home. Patricia & Alastair are very generous, attentive & welcoming hosts, who clearly care about the experience of their guests. There was 8 of us, plus 3 dogs & a baby & this was the perfect weekend home for the family. The most well equipped Airbnb we have stayed in too! Fantastic village pub & beautiful walks from the front door. We would love to return in the future. Thank you!..."
