Twll y Cae

This delightful detached cottage is located down a quiet lane, just off the main street in Pentrefelin, close to Criccieth and Porthmadog in North Wales. This beautiful cottage in Pentrefelin was once home to the renowned poet R S Thomas, a friend of Clough William Ellis, the architect of Portmeirion, who it is thought may have helped design the garden at Twll y Cae. Set all on the ground floor, this cottage near Criccieth has plenty of space, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large kitchen/dining room and a spacious sitting room with an open fire, a wonderful spot to retire to on chilly winter evenings. There is a lovely cottage garden at this North Wales holiday home. Laid out on a variety of levels and in a number of distinct styles, you can easily get lost just by following the path that winds around the cottage. A patio at one side is a lovely spot for a cooling evening drink, whilst mature planting obscures quiet little spots where you can hide away with a cup of tea and a good book. Pentrefelin (Welsh for mill village) is situated midway between the harbour town of Porthmadog and the pretty seaside town of Criccieth. Spend a day discovering the 13th century castle at Criccieth before taking afternoon tea at one of the many cafes in the town. Porthmadog has an impressive marina and is the terminus for the steam trains stopping at the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways. The Italianate village of Portmeirion is well worth a visit, plus there are a number of stunning Blue Flag beaches close by. Whatever you choose to do on your North Wales holiday, this charming Pentrefelin cottage is the perfect base for discovering this fabulous region.
