Originally the ticket office for the small country railway station of Ardgay in Sutherland, this traditional, semi-detached, single-storey stone cottage has been beautifully converted to provide a pretty and welcoming holiday cottage. Situated in a quiet no-through lane and adjoining the local railway line (eight small local trains per day, no night service), The Ticket Office makes an ideal base for couples or small families. There is an attractive living room with a sofa bed for up to two extra visitors. The bright, modern kitchen/dining room is fully fitted and very well equipped. The original windows look out across the waters of the Kyle of Sutherland to the hills beyond. There is an attractively presented bedroom with a double bed and colour co-ordinated soft furnishings. A modern shower room completes the picture. The patio gardens are fully fenced and have pretty tubs with flowers and a raised border bed, making it an ideal place to sit out and enjoy a quiet drink whilst planning the next day’s excursion.
Ardgay is a quiet hamlet with a convenient local store. The adjoining village of Bonar Bridge provides further facilities, including shops, a café, pub and bistro restaurant. The village also has its own 9-hole golf course, and there are numerous outdoor activities and places of interest in the area. The area is renowned for fishing, with salmon and trout fishing permits available to visitors in season. There are spectacular mountain bike trails close by and numerous walks through hills, woodland and along the picturesque River Carron which runs nearby.
The Ticket Office is ideally located for exploring the whole of the Highland region, including the amazing North Coast 500 route, which runs through some of the most spectacular scenery to be found anywhere in the British Isles. Local places of interest include the Falls of Shin, one of the few places to see salmon leaping close to hand, and Dunrobin Castle, historic seat of the Duke of Sutherland. Travel further north to explore the seascapes of Caithness and Orkney. The route across to the west coast from here is truly awe-inspiring, with rugged mountains interspersed with crystal clear lochs and the emerald green sea of the Atlantic. Heading south, Inverness is just 40 minutes’ drive away. Beach 14 miles. Shop 300 yards, pub and restaurant 2 miles.
