This enchanting Grade II* listed building provides spacious and stylish accommodation to cater to the needs of your celebratory getaway with friends and family. In a quiet location but within close reach of a wide array of attractions, The Old Church House is a perfect base for your exploration of Devon. Step inside to be greeted by all of the wonder that this property has to offer, with multiple social areas, this dwelling is perfect for gatherings with all of your loved ones. Choose to spend some quality time together in the ‘old bar lounge’, with ample room for everyone to sit and enjoy a toast around the cosy fire. The area features a large wood burner, a 58 inch internet enabled TV, a variety of tables, upholstered chairs and benches, and, taking centre stage, the lovely old bar. This is fully maintained and can be stocked with your choice of ale, lager and cider to enjoy ‘on tap’, throughout your stay. A price list for this service is available on request. We’ll even give you a bar tending lesson (please book in advance)! A glass washer, ice machine and temperature controlled wine fridge make serving the perfect drink a breeze. We can provide bar staff if required (please book in advance- additional charge). For more formal occasions, the dining area can cater for everyone to sit and enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal, and with one dining area a step down from the other, it provides a great place for the little ones and the adults to have their own space to unwind. A bar and storage area features a large coffee maker, water boiler and toasters, so everything is to hand for breakfast or after dinner coffee. Welcome boxes, celebration cakes and catering can be provided on request (must be pre-booked).
Catering for all of your culinary requirements is the kitchen, boasting a wide range of commercial appliances including an oven and hob, dishwasher, fridges, microwaves and a large freezer. A generous hot cupboard will ensure your plates are warm and food can be kept hot until you are ready to eat. If you’d like to relax and leave the cooking to someone else, we can help arrange a private chef/ catering (subject to availability, this must be pre-booked). For an evening of entertainment indoors, the games area is sure to provide hours of fun, featuring a three quarter size snooker table, a darts alley and a board games corner, this area is great for the little ones and big kids alike.
For some quiet time away from the excitement of the group, the snug area makes a great reading spot to unwind with a warming beverage in hand while you escape into a good novel. The snug is equipped with cosy seating and a library with a wide selection of books. The large log burner provides a warming focal point. As the evening draws to a close, you’ll be delighted to find eleven well-presented bedrooms situated across the first and second floors, each boasting their own en-suites, tea and coffee making facilities and televisions, you’re sure to feel right at home as you snuggle up to sleep after a day full of adventure.
Each bedroom features quality furnishings and is individually themed on Dartmoor’s wildlife. All showers are high quality power showers.
Outside the wonder continues, with a large, secure lawned garden with plenty of picnic style tables, where you can enjoy your beverage fresh from inside the house and lots of space for your little ones and canine companions to play. The lawned garden has fruit trees and bushes, and is securely fenced. It is important to keep any dogs within the fenced garden as we are surrounded by farmland and farm animals- the friendly Devon ruby cows will greet you from their field behind the property! The lack of air and light pollution make this a wonderful spot for star gazing or enjoying the sound of the owls which live in the area. There is also a magical ‘hidden patio’ at the back of the property - only overlooked by the Devon Ruby cows. This fully lit decked area, with sturdy marquee and seating provides an idyllic spot to fully appreciate rural Devon. Steps from the bar area make it the ideal spot for a nightcap, afternoon tea or a chill out session after Dartmoor or the beach. The Old Church House is nestled in the idyllic Devon hamlet of Torbryan, justifiably known as South Devon’s hidden gem. Wonderful walks can be had from the property’s front door. A short distance away is the village of Ipplepen, with a shop, pub and post office. Within easy reach are all of South Devon’s many attractions, including Dartmoor National Park, beaches at Torquay, Paignton, Salcombe and more, the unique alternative attractions of Totnes and the arts hub at Dartington. The 13th century delight of The Old Church House is indeed perfectly positioned for a fun-filled adventure in Devon with all of your loved ones.
The property is fully managed: we will be delighted to arrange events, guides, babysitting and activities. Let us know what you need prior to your arrival and we’ll let you know how we can help.
