Shepherd’s Cottage is a charming, detached, 19th-century croft cottage set amidst stunning scenery in the heart of spectacular Sutherland. It shares it’s courtyard setting with a second holiday cottage but the owners have been careful to ensure neither cottage is overlooked and each has its own private, fully enclosed and ’dog friendly’ garden. Having undergone a complete refurbishment by its farming owners, the cottage provides a high standard of accommodation in a completely unspoilt setting. The pretty sitting room has an original reclaimed shepherd’s cottage wood-burner, which makes a delightful focal point as well as providing a warm and cosy ambience. There is a bright contemporary kitchen/dining room, and an original staircase leads up to two pretty bedrooms, with colour coordinated soft furnishings and high quality beds. Accessed by a rough track, and set in its own private and fully enclosed gardens, it enjoys stunning views across the Kyle of Sutherland to the hills beyond. The property is set on a working farm, and the owner’s sheep and Aberdeen Angus cattle graze nearby.
The area is renowned for its beauty and wildlife. Deer, eagles, otters, osprey, pine marten and numerous birds are all present in the vicinity. There are renowned mountain biking trails in the local area and fishing, golf, hill walking, climbing and a wide variety of water sports are all local pastimes.
Whilst located in a quiet countryside setting, it is easily accessible for exploring the whole of the Highland region. Head west along a spectacular route with mountains, lochs and rivers to Ullapool and Lochinver. A drive to the far north provides equally breathtaking scenery. Head south and Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, is just over an hour’s drive. Watch salmon leaping at the Falls of Shin, visit Royal Dornoch with its beautiful sandstone cathedral, award-winning sandy beach and championship golf course, or explore the grand house and gardens of Dunrobin Castle, seat of the Dukes of Sutherland. Beach 18 miles. Shop 3 miles, pub ¾ miles and restaurant 4 miles.
