The seaside town of Troon is easily reached, with a fine mix of eclectic shops and eateries, promenade and marina. The coastal towns of Ayr and Prestwick are close by. Ayrshire offers unspoilt scenery and a varying coastline with villages, sandy beaches and rocky coves to explore, whilst inland there are gardens and castles to visit, riding, racing and a choice of golf courses. Culzean Castle (owned by the National Trust for Scotland) is spectacular and is Ayrshire’s most popular tourist attraction. The surrounding country park (extending over 550 acres) has a network of wooded trails passing along the beach. Craft shows, country dancing and walks spotting fungi are attractions hosted during the year.
Day trips to Ireland can be taken from Cairnryan. The bustling cosmopolitan city of Glasgow is only a 30-minute drive and Edinburgh an hour, with good train links from Prestwick. Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park is only 45 minutes away and the ferry links to the islands of Cumbrae, Bute and Arran are all close by. Beach ¾ mile.
