Located close to Dorking, which has many shops, eateries and pubs, it stands within a small friendly village between Beare Green and Holmwood, which has a small parade of shops, railway station (London can be reached within an hour) and library. There is a lovely community spirit, and the local residents have funded a playground with swings and slides, as well as a basketball area, ideal for children!
Inside the house is a large entrance hall with cloakroom/toilet, which leads to a superb, tastefully furnished, open plan living space with parquet floor, wood burner and folding doors, which extend the width of the whole room. This leads onto a large decked area with seating and gas barbecue, ideal for al fresco dining, and there are steps down to an extensive garden with rattan furniture and large chiminea. Deer, pheasants, badgers and various birds can be observed in the garden and the fields beyond.
There are extensive walks in the area, and within a short drive is Box Hill (known for walking and cycling) and orienteering. Leith Hill and tower, a popular National Trust site and one of the south of England’s highest points, is close by. It was once a favourite visiting place of Charles Darwin, the famous naturalist, and he conducted experiments in the grounds, which now attracts many visitors to its gardens. There are many popular country inns and pubs in the locality, and picturesque villages and hamlets to discover nearby, including Shere, with its 13th-century church, tea rooms and duck pond. Also located close to the property are Abinger Hammer, Ockley and Forest Green. Dorking is about a 15-minute drive and is a delightful town with various amenities, plus a mainline station to London. Guildford is also easy driving distance and has a cathedral, the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, a large shopping centre and cosmopolitan eateries. In addition to the lido, indoor pool and leisure centre, you can find Wild Wood Adventure Park, ideal for children of all ages.
Wonderful walks can be enjoyed along the North Downs, including at Newlands Corner, and there are plenty of golf courses and fishing in the area. There is so much to enjoy for all ages, including Polseden Lacy (National Trust), Chessington World of Adventure, Brocketts Farm, Hampton Court Palace, Denbies Vineyard, which is the largest in the UK, and Gomshall Mill. If a day at the races is for you, there are many racecourses to choose from, including Sandown, Lingfied Park, Kempton, Brighton and Plumpton. For a day at the beach, Worthing or Brighton are about an hour away by car. Gatwick Airport is about a 25-minute drive and Heathrow about 30 minutes. There is a bus stop outside the property, which goes to the market town of Horsham or in the opposite direction, to Kingston-upon-Thames. Shop 500 yards, pub and restaurant ½ mile.
