Sleeps: 4

Standing proudly at the entrance to Netherby Hall is Middle Lodge, a beautifully restored, double fronted, former gatehouse providing Victorian character along with 21st century comfort and luxuries for four guests. Standing proudly at the entrance to Netherby Hall is Middle Lodge, a beautifully restored former gatehouse providing Victorian character along with 21st century comfort and luxuries for four guests.
Inside the doubled fronted, eaved entranceway with red painted front door, Middle Lodge is as charming as its exterior suggests. An inviting sitting room with wood burning stove and Smart television welcomes you to put your feet up and unwind. A modern and very well-equipped kitchen will keep keen chefs happy and everyone can enjoy the results in a separate dining room. An extra decadence is the free-standing roll top bath within the master bedroom, however a family shower room is also provided. Outside, enjoy a generous size, enclosed garden with patio area, garden furniture and a barbecue for summer al fresco dining.
The lodge sits at the entrance to 36 acres of parkland, where you can stroll across manicured lawns, enjoy a Victorian pleasure garden and walk through a walled garden that stretches for over an acre. The estate is nestled in north Cumbria, with spectacular views over the undulating landscape to the Scottish hills beyond. Glorious walks abound, including a path alongside the River Esk, a burbling brook that is beautifully clear.
For larger groups, the neighbouring properties Clock Tower Apartment (sleeps two guests); Coach House (sleeps four guests); Engineer Apartment (sleeps two guests); Gardener's Cottage (sleeps four guests); Groom's Quarters Apartment (sleeps four guests); Independent Apartment (sleeps four guests); Salutation Apartment (sleeps two guests) and The Sir Walter Scott Apartment (sleeps four guests) are also available to book within the grounds of Netherby Hall. Julia King, June 2021

We have just returned from a lovely 2 week holiday in Middle Lodge at Netherby Hall after our holiday was delayed by 12 months.

From the start I dealt directly with the staff at Netherby Hall and they were so helpful and friendly, this continued in person throughout our visit. The teamwork, sense of pride and commitment to the Netherby Estate is evident.

The estate itself is fantastic for gentle dog walking, only open to the public for certain occasions and so very quiet. The grounds are beautifully maintained, with natural elements, cattle, wildlife and a lovely walled garden which supplied the vase of fresh flowers in the lodge on our arrival and also the botanicals for Netherby Gin which I can thoroughly recommend, a nice, fresh traditional style of gin.

We were blown away by the lodge, lovely big rooms, light, airy, well equipped, immaculately clean and so very comfortable. We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed the massive, enclosed and private garden where we had a couple of barbecues and enjoyed quite a few meals. Our dog loved it too and acted as unpaid guard dog whenever any vehicle entered the estate.

When we needed to we made use of the log burning stoves and smart TV. The kitchen was a pleasure to work in with good quality and modern appliances and utensils. I have to say that the slipper bath in the main bedroom was just the height of luxury.

The hall is just 2 miles outside Longtown which is home to a number of shops and services including an excellent butcher and a farmshop located just to the north of the town.

I would thoroughly recommend Netherby as a destination for all, not just dog owners, but it really is dog friendly even down to a luxury dog food meal in the welcome pack.
