Keeper's Rest

Whaley Bridge 1 mile. The delightful Keeper's Rest cottage sits on the very edge of the magnificent Peak District National Park, in the village of Buxworth, Originally an old miners’ cottage, nowadays it provides beautifully renovated holiday accommodation for a couple or a small family wishing to take a break in this stunning area. You can park up on the off-road parking space and enter the cottage, coming straight into the sitting room, where you can take the weight off your feet after a long walk in the Peaks and enjoy a well earned rest on one of the plush armchairs. An electric coal effect fire can warm you up in the brisk cold months, and a TV sits in the corner for your entertainment on a quiet evening. Moving further in, the cosy, well equipped kitchen/diner is complete with all the appliances and equipment you will need for your self-catered stay and has a solid pine kitchen table and four chairs allowing plenty of room to enjoy a meal with your loved ones. There is even a jar of doggy treats for your four legged friends and also dog towels provided for those muddy paws. Explore upstairs and find the two lovely bedrooms, beautifully decorated in white and other light colours to create tranquil sleeping spaces. Comprising of a double room with white wrought iron bed and a cosy single room; with the single room overlooking the pretty little garden, and the double looking out to the road below and the trees and hills beyond. The lovely light and bright shower room lies across the hall waiting to provide you with a refreshingly hot shower. Once outside make use of the pretty garden; if you have a little one they can run around or you can simply set up the furniture to enjoy dinner outside. The garden is completely enclosed and safe for your little ones or your four legged friends. Buxworth is home to the Buxworth Canal Basin, the head of navigation of the Peak Forest Canal. This was fully restored in 2005 and is a popular tourist attraction, with many lovely walks along the canal and is a fascinating way to spend an afternoon. It is also located on the Penine Cycleway and therefore perfect for a long bike ride to visit the various villages and pubs along the way. Whatever the time of year there are all kinds of things to do in the Peak District National Park. There are plenty of beautiful walks on your doorstep in Buxworth and if you venture out a little further into the Peaks to really begin your holiday, you will find many tourist attractions. The spa town of Buxton is close by, along with Bakewell to try an original Bakewell Pudding, Eyam (the famous Derbyshire plague village), the Goyt Valley, Castleton which is home of the Blue John mines. For a wonderful day out for all the family, the magnificent Chatsworth House has to be visited and is only 45 minutes away. Get out for some amazing walks, with Kinder Scout and Mam Tor just a couple of Peaks waiting to be explored. There are lots of opportunities for cycling, climbing and many other outdoor activities. There is also trainline in Chinley which has regular trains to the cities of Sheffield and Manchester, if you fancy a little city culture. Keeper's Rest will be a great base from which to explore the fantastic Peaks and surrounding areas.
