Full of history, this detached, converted inn dates back to the 16th century. It has been said that prisoners were kept in the cellars here whilst the guards enjoyed a drink in the upstairs bar. Packed full of original features, Holme Garth has been lovingly renovated to the highest of standards throughout, and offering contemporary fixtures and fittings, including superfast Wi-Fi, bringing the 16th century into the 21st century. It lies five miles away from the popular Georgian market town of Richmond with top quality restaurants, bistros and bars, as well as antiques shops and gift shops. There is a farmers’ market that takes place occasionally on the cobbled market square as well as numerous tourist attractions to visit including the historic castle that stands high on the hill and overlooks the thriving town below. Also perfect for walkers and cyclists, there are many established public footpaths and cycle ways that pass through Kirby Hill and out through open fields, woodland and unspoilt countryside, and further beyond into the famous Yorkshire Dales. There are excellent riverside and woodland walks leading from Richmond, including Wainwright’s famous Coast to Coast Walk. Within easy reach are many historic houses and NT properties. Enjoy racing at Catterick (15-minute drive) or York (one hour), or visit the many pretty Yorkshire towns and villages including Thirsk, Ripon, Yarm, Northallerton, Pickering and Leyburn, as well as one of the dazzling Yorkshire beaches and coastline, just an hour’s drive away.
