Nestled in a flower-filled meadow that is home to ancient oaks, murmuring streams and that simply brims with wildlife, this charming Shepherd’s Hut is the perfect laid-back retreat.
The relaxed surroundings of the 6 acre site that Hilda shares a home with have been subtly and eco-sensitively managed - it’s not just those looking for a pared-back escape that will find a welcome, but the local wildlife feels at home too in this haven hidden in the Waveney Valley.
This lovingly and locally-crafted Shepherd’s Hut has charming vintage touches but doesn’t compromise on modern comforts. Solar-powered lighting can be yours at the flick of a reclaimed Bakelite light switch and the traditional wood-burning stove will keep you perfectly warm and toasty if the weather outside is a little cool. The kitchen area, beautifully decorated with hand-made tiles, has a cold-tap sink and is also home to the two ring gas hob which is perfect for preparing simple meals on, or of course for boiling the kettle for that all important first brew of the day. Alternatively, you can “go traditional” and use the wood-burning stove to keep the kettle bubbling throughout the day.
The comfortable sofa is the perfect place to curl up in the evenings and plan your adventures for the following day and when sleep finally beckons, the cosy double bed, dressed with 100% cotton, will ensure your dreams are sweet - there’s even a bunk bed above that’s suitable for a child.
The gorgeous views aren’t confined to just Hilda – even your own private loo, nestled discretely at the back, has a stable door so you can enjoy the view of the neighbouring field!
Outside, the meadow has been carefully nurtured to promote wildflowers, beloved of butterflies. Your own private mown grassed area is the perfect place to sit and relax in the warm summer sun. Lie back and watch the buzzards riding the thermals or Indulge in some al fresco dining at the picnic table – the firepit is the perfect way to refine your barbecuing skills and will keep away any late evening chill.
If you’re planning a big get-together, there is plenty of room on site for those that don’t mind giving up some of their creature comforts to bring their own tents. After a sociable evening around the firepit, just think how smug you’ll feel at the end of the night as you retire to your comfortable double bed!
