By 1910 the only handwoven livery plush manufacturer in the world, “Wrench's”, was based in Shutford - they supplied plush for the coronation of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia in 1896, decorations at Windsor Castle for Queen Victoria & liveries for royal courts in Europe and the embassies of China, Japan, Persia and the United States.

Very lucky and were willing to help with any questions. Forgot to bring a dog towel and within 3 minutes of texting, I was supplied with one! Gorgeous scenery with some lovely long walks with great pubs. Many recommendations to check out and perfect for a group stay..." Charlotte, October 2020 (Air BnB)

"... Lovely house with lots of outdoor seating areas - some sunny and some shady which were perfect as we were there during a heatwave. We loved sitting in the conservatory and our cockapoo loved the garden. Comfortable, well-equipped home and the hosts were very generous with little treats that they left for us. Patricia and Alistair were on hand to offer help, recommendations or just for a chat. Great location for country walks and pubs. Would definitely recommend …" Nadia & Phil, August 2020, (HomeAway)
"... Lovely location, lovely house, lovely garden, lovely owners. Lovely ..." Tim & Family, August 2020, (English Country Cottages)
"...First of all, the hosts, Patricia and Alastair, were brilliant! They made everything possible to make our stay perfect, from buying a brand new bbq to patching a inflatable pool we brought along for the kids. The house is great, the garden is beautiful and being fully closed was very helpful as we could leave our kids and dog free to play together. Wifi internet was very good, which helped me do some home-office work. Every detail in the house was prepared with care and to a great standard. We did some bike rides around the area and the landscape was beautiful. There is a sweet playground just across the street that the kids loved to go to and play. We will certainly go back! Thank you!..." Leo and Flavia July 2020 (HomeAway)
"... Thank you for everything. If we are coming over next year - only your accommodation will be our choice. Very High Impressions …" Aleksei & Yana, March 2020, (English Country Cottages)

"... We had a lovely stay over the weekend. Alastair and Patricia were delightful hosts and have a beautiful home. We enjoyed our time there, had an excellent dinner at the local pub right down the road and were within short drives of multiple things to do - Warwick castle, Roll right and Banbury. Overall, we'd surely visit again and would easily recommend this to fellow travellers looking for a break in the Cotswolds..." Gaurav, February 2020 (Air BnB)
"...Upon arrival we were made to feel so welcome by Patricia. She showed us around her beautiful home told us to use whatever we needed. The house is beautiful and very clean. We had a wonderful weekend and nothing was too much trouble. We had some severe weather on the Sunday and as they had no guests arriving they invited us to stay longer as they wanted us to be safe. The village is lovely as well. Would definitely recommend . You will be made to feel so welcome. We hope to return in the not too distant future ..." Wendy, February 2020 (Air BnB)
"...The owners were very friendly and helpful. Monastery Barn was well presented with nice little touches such as Ferrero Rocher and bottles of water in every bedroom..." Louise, January 2020 (English Cottages)
"...What an amazing place and pair of hosts! Booked the Barn at short notice for an impromptu friends' get together over a Sat & Sun night in Jan. Patricia & Alastair were super helpful and accommodating with lots of tips and flexibility. The place is better than the photos with buckets of charm and space for our group of 7 friends. It was perfect for our meet up... dining around the large table, playing games in the lounge in front of the fire, and even dancing to some tunes in the conservatory! Lots to do around the area - we chose a village walk (thanks for the map), a trip to Upton House and brunch at New Amsterdam (pancake house) in Banbury. Warm, cosy, divine beds and a fantastic rain shower. Lots of provisions and elegantly decorated. Thank you - simply best air bnb experience yet!..." Rose Marie, January 2020 (AirBnB)
"...We would definitely recommend staying at this beautiful house! The 6 of us and Ozzy & Moaki had a fantastic few days for the New Year. From pubs lunches to long walks, it was just the escape from London we all wanted. The house had everything we needed, thank you Alastair and Patricia for being excellent hosts!..." Emma S, December 2019 (HomeAway)
"...Lovely cottage, exactly as expected. We were very well looked after. Patricia and Alastair were great hosts. Recommended..." Josephine, December 2019 (Air BnB)
"... An excellent option for those looking for a stay in the country. The hosts were fantastic, extremely helpful throughout. The property itself was also lovely..."William M, December 2019 (HomeAway)
"... Wonderful cottage. Exceptionally well equipped. Very accommodating hosts. The only thing which could be improved would be the addition of a proper stand-up shower in the second bathroom. Otherwise, everything is perfect! Thanks for a wonderful stay..." Amy, November 2019 (English Country Cottages)
"... A beautiful place. Loads to see and do. The owners are fantastic hosts..." Kenneth, November 2019 (English Country Cottages)
"... Monastery Barn is wonderful property and is perfect for a dog-walking weekend away in the countryside. The fully enclosed garden is perfectly suited for dogs; we have a bouncy German Shepherd puppy and we felt completely secure letting her dart in an out. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful and the house is fully equipped. We had everything we needed and the beds were incredibly comfortable. Many thanks for having us!... " Joe, Niel, Glen, Louisa & Dylan, November 2019 (Pets Pyjamas)
"... It was a pleasure to stay at the Barn, which was welcoming and friendly, just like the hosts Alastair and Patricia ..." Chris, October 2019 (Air BnB)
"... 10 out of 10..." Tim, October 2019 (English Country Cottages)
"... Wonderful. Excellent accommodation - very spacious and comfortable. Generously furnished and equipped, and extraordinarily welcoming friendly and helpful hosts..." Richard, October 2019 (English Country Cottages)
"... Monastery Barn is just as nice as it looks in the pictures. The property is well equipped (particularly the kitchen and dining area) and plenty of cleaning materials/soap were provided. The welcome drinks were a nice touch and it was useful that the owners were so near for information and the minor queries we raised. Nearby pub is within walking distance and serves food in their restaurant. Shutford village, whilst quiet and lovely, has no shop - although Banbury is not far and has major supermarkets and independent shops there. Monastery Barn is very well placed to visit the Cotswolds and other local attractions..." Gary, October 2019 (English Country Cottages)
"... Very warm welcome from the hosts, lovely house particularly garden room & outdoor seating areas. Great location, easy access to Cotswolds, Oxford area & Stratford-upon-Avon..." Steve, September 2019 (English Country Cottages)
"... This is a fabulous cottage in a small, beautiful Cotswold village. The house was beautiful and very well equipped and the garden was fantastic. The owners gave us a very warm welcome including some welcome drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). They are very dog friendly and the house has a large downstairs area with a tiled floor so good even in muddy weather. The garden is properly secure for the dogs and ours had a fabulous time exploring and playing in it. There is an outside tap for paw rinsing and a dog towel was provided. There is off road parking and good dog walking from the house as well as being in close driving range of many more walks and great places to visit. We would highly recommend Monastery Barn for your holiday..." Naomi & Gavin, September 2019 (English Country Cottages)
"... Amazing & Welcoming Stay on the edge of the Cotswolds - Our group of 7 had an absolutely lovely stay at this cottage. Patricia and Alistair were so warm and welcoming. They made us feel at home from the moment we pulled in the driveway. The cottage itself is very quaint and a great location to explore. It has three bedrooms, all with comfortable beds. There are two rooms to lounge in and an amazing backyard (garden) out back. They had chocolates on our pillows and other little touches that made us feel very welcome. The kitchen is very well supplied. I absolutely recommend staying here. We couldn't have asked for more welcoming hosts! Thank you so much Patricia and Alistair …" Kristy L, August 2019 (HomeAway)
"... Alistair and Patricia were the perfect hosts. Their house is lovely and the garden was amazing. We spent the weekend in Shutford for my Mum's 70th and this was the ideal location for a family gathering..." Becky, August 2019 (Air BnB)
" … We think ourselves to be so incredibly fortunate to find this exquisite home in the wonderful village of Shutford. As a location from which to explore the Cotswolds it is ideal. Alastair and Patricia are remarkably nice people and make great efforts to make one's stay as good as it can be. It is rare to meet such good people and it seems to me that they have poured all of that inherent virtue into creating a home that exceeds all expectation. Every comfort has been considered and every conceivable need has been thought of. We found it to be "a home away from home" and I think there can be no higher recommendation than that. Overall, I doubt that there is a better place to stay in the Cotswolds..." Vivian & Daniel, July 2019 (Air BnB)
"… Delightful. Monastery Barn was perfect for our little weekend getaway. Patricia and Alistair gave us a warm welcome and were helpful throughout. The house was beautiful and well equipped, a home away from home. We had 3 toddlers who loved the house and the garden. It really was a lovely stay despite the weather. Thanks to Patricia and Alistair!..." Gillian, July 2019 (HomeAway)
" … Outstanding. This is a very comfortable and characterful property nestled in a quiet little village in the West Midlands - an absolutely quintessentially English setting. The proprietors Patricia and Alistair reside in a separate, smaller building on site. They were unfailingly gracious and went out of their way to assist us. You can?t really ask for a more warm, friendly and delightfully caring couple! On arrival they handed us a welcome package that included a number of excellent eateries within easy driving range. We tried Edgehill Castle and the Bell at Shenington, which were both delicious, but then we went to the Boxing Hare and that was just superb - true fine dining. The property itself is magnificently done up, including three cosy bedrooms, a spacious sun room, a very pretty lawn, and all modern amenities in terms of appliances and WiFi. Step outside the property and you are confronted with rolling meadows criss crossed by quaint fences, with sheep grazing and horses trotting about. The town of Banbury, which has an urban shopping center, is 15 min by car. We stayed five nights and time just flew past. It was over all too soon!..." Anita & Saad, July 2019 (TripAdvisor)
" … Fab stay - lovely home in a sweet village. All the amenities and a great tranquil garden...."Kathryn, July 2019 (Air BnB)
" ...Thank you Alistair and Patricia for being so accommodating with our group. You have a beautiful place you share and your hospitality makes it even more special. The location was amazing too!! Xx..." Leanne, June 2019 (Air BnB)
" … We loved our stay here. A great place to socialise with friends..." Phil, June 2019 (Air BnB)
" … Our group of six friends & our two dogs have just returned from a very enjoyable three night stay at Alastair and Patricia's place. They were great hosts. Available if we needed them but respected our privacy also. 'Gorgeous Barn' is an apt description of a lovely property with everything we needed & ideally situated for exploring the beautiful Cotswolds. We hope to return sometime...." Carol, June 2019 (Air BnB)
" … Awesome house in a lovely village location. Nice interaction with the host and would recommend the property to others...." Edward, June 2019 (Air BnB)
" ... Fantastic Hosts and a wonderful Weekend! Alastair and Patricia were so kind and welcoming to our group. They made themselves available to show us around and answer any questions but didn't impose on us in any way. The house itself is fantastic! The communal spaces fit our group perfectly (6 adults / 3 small children / 2 dogs) and we never felt too cramped. The rooms are lovely too. As is the garden! Would stay again here in a heartbeat!..." Stefane, May 2019 (HomeAway)
" … Very Welcoming. A beautiful property with a delightful and private garden in a fabulous area of the country. A wonderful welcome, help along the way, very thorough information about the house and area. All in all I highly recommend a stay here. My foreign cousins really liked the 'grandeur' of living in another 'age'! a beautifully set table with silverware and crystal and china to welcome us, real paintings on the wall, some old furniture! Thank you to you both for helping make their stay 'memorable'..." Mary, May 2019 (HomeAway)
" … It was great the house was prefect clean well maintained the owners were great even with the dogs the village was in a great location for the Cotswolds. The pub was 5 minutes walk from the house, food was good too. We all liked the house as it was all enclosed for the dogs to run around...." Neal, May 2019 (HomeAway)
" … Alastair and Patricia are very generous and welcoming hosts. Have just enjoyed a 3 night stay at Monastery Barn ?? everything was as described and we had a very comfortable, relaxing time in an area of England none of us knows well. Unfortunately, we were not there long enough to fully appreciate all the accommodation and the area has to offer, which was a great shame as Monastery Barn is a home to be enjoyed and not just used as a base to sleep in and leave one's belongings! Would happily recommend...." Christine, April 2019 (Air BnB)
" … If I could give 6 stars for this stay I would. It's the sort of place that you just want to be in. Cozy yet spacious, tasteful, plenty of different areas, fully equipped kitchen, beautiful secure private garden. Very dog friendly. And that's just the cottage itself. On top of that Alistair and Patricia couldn't have been more accommodating or helpful. Immediate and detailed responses to queries, letting us bring 4 large dogs and even one extra person, and perfect pub and village recommendations which all were amazing. Shutford itself had lovely walks and was very easy to get into the main cotswolds or a nip into Banbury. We'll definitely return one day and I encourage you to book. You won't regret..." Michelle, April 2019 (Air BnB)
" … Cosy, comfy, well equipped, personal service. Fabulous stay. Super helpful Hosts ! Many Thx..." Sarah, April 2019 (Air BnB)
" … A cute cottage with great scenic surroundings. Stay was very comfortable with all good facilities! Would visit again!..." Kusum, April 2019 (Air BnB)
"... Alistair and Patricia were wonderful hosts. Alistair offered to collect shopping for us and even offered to cook for us (they stay in the smaller barn across the front courtyard). The barn was very homely and had everything you could possibly need - a home from home. Beds were very comfortable and a good nights sleep was had by all our family. The location is quite remote and just over 10 minute drive to shops in Banbury but there is a local village pub. Lovely and quiet; all I could hear were the birds. I would definitely recommend..." Alison February 2019
"... The photos don't do this place justice. Fantastic place to stay. Alastair and Patricia were amazingly friendly hosts, very helpful during our entire stay but also respected our privacy. The rooms very extremely clean, we had everything we needed and they even put out chocolates in each room which was a lovely little touch..." Han, February 2019 (Air BnB)
"... We had a wonderful stay at Patricia & Alastair's place over the New Year's Eve with my family. They have warmly welcomed us to their beautiful house and told us about things to do around the area. The living spaces and the bedrooms are so cosy that we loved our stay, and they have decorated 2 beautiful Christmas trees, which was a nice touch for our NYE dinner. I recommend this house for everyone who wants to stay in a comfortable place with great hosts, while exploring Cotswolds/Stratford-upon-Avon area as it's a short drive from there..." Sila, January 2019 (Air BnB)
"... Alistair & Patricia were extremely welcoming hosts. They had even put up 2 Christmas trees (1 in the lounge and 1 in the dining area). This made our break between Xmas and NY even more special. They also had set the lovely dining table for our Boxing Day meal. This was a lovely touch. The house was perfect for 3 adult couples (family) as there was lots of space to relax. The newly decorated bedrooms and bathrooms were very nice and the beds so comfy! Thank you for a lovely stay!..." Mathilda, December 2018 (Air BnB)
"... This really is a great place to stay. Patricia and Alastair have put a massive effort and considerable good taste into the refurbishment and furnishing of this property for guests to enjoy ; we cannot recommend it highly enough!..." Tim and Jane, December 2018 (Air BnB)
