Felton is a pretty village dating back to the 12th century, and has a popular village pub and award-winning tea room. The friendly fishing port of Amble is only 8 miles away with a popular Sunday market, small fish restaurants and cute little pod-style harbour village. From Amble, follow the Northumberland Heritage Coast towards Craster, Beadnell and Bamburgh, taking in the golden beaches and miles of unspoilt coastline and castles. A train to Edinburgh or York can be taken from the station at nearby Morpeth, 11 miles, where you can leave your car and make a fabulous day trip. Alnwick Castle, which features in scenes from Harry Potter, Downton Abbey and Braveheart is only 9½ miles away and should not be missed. A trip to Cragside House, a National Trust property 12 miles away, is also recommended, or visit Rothbury, a small, pretty market town, combining it with the Northumberland National Park and Kielder. Northumberland has the beauty of both coast and countryside to explore, and a visit to Hadrian’s Wall should also be included. Easily accessed via the A69, you can visit Corbridge and Hexham, stopping off at some of the Roman forts or even visiting part of the original wall.
