Located in the heart of Kirkby Stephen and just a few minutes’ walk from all of the town’s amenities, Cornthwaite Cottage offers comfortable and cosy accommodation, ideal for couples or a small family who like to have everything on their doorstep. This traditional, stone-built cottage has been thoughtfully renovated, successfully combining all the contemporary comforts one needs, whilst at the same time retaining much of its original character. Stepping into the welcoming lounge you are immediately drawn to the beautiful stone fireplace with multi-fuel stove, perfect for those colder evenings. To the rear of the property is a small but well-equipped kitchen, which leads out onto the private enclosed garden, with patio area equipped in summer for alfresco dining. A chiminea is available for barbecues, or heating on cooler evenings. Upstairs, there are two comfortable bedrooms and a contemporary shower room.
This charming cottage enjoys a central location within the Cumbrian market town of Kirkby Stephen. Here you will find a good selection of shops, pubs, cafés and eateries, as well as a couple of supermarkets and a weekly market held on Mondays. The town also has a heritage centre, tourist information office and train station which is on the famous Settle-Carlisle line.
Kirkby Stephen regularly wins ’best large village’ awards in both local and national competitions. It is also a ’Walkers are Welcome’ town, a title awarded to places which have something special to offer walkers. The town is on the Coast to Coast walk and the surrounding countryside, apart from offering spectacular views, provides walking opportunities for all abilities. The area is also great for cycling and for those bringing their own bicycles, there is secure storage at the property. Other activities available locally include golf and fishing.
The closest lake is Ullswater, 25 miles, which is regarded as the most romantic of the lakes. There is a regular boat service running up and down the lake with stops for those wishing to walk part way. In addition to the stunning landscapes of the Lakes and Dales, the North Pennines which is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is also within easy reach.
With so much to see and do and with everything you need within a few minutes’ walk, Cornthwaite Cottage is somewhere you will want to visit again and again. Shop, pub and restaurant 150 yards.
