Originally built circa 1700, this pretty cottage adjoins the owner’s house and has a large, lawned garden, a sunny, sheltered outdoor dining and barbecue area. Set just inland from Newquay on Cornwall’s dramatic north coast, Chy Gwarek is the perfect holiday base from which to enjoy the golden beaches at Crantock, Fistral, Holywell Bay, Porth and Watergate (the latter being home to one of Jamie Oliver’s restaurants). Newquay has an abundance of beaches that cater for everyone, from surfing and surf schools to rock pools and a tidal river, which is the perfect place for crabbing and stand-up paddle boarding (the latest trend to get you on the water!). Newquay Zoo, leisure centre, tennis club and boating lake provide a distraction from the beaches if one is needed. There are plentiful restaurants, bars and cafés, as well as shops for a little retail therapy. The harbour is an attraction all of its own, with sea fishing trips and gig rowing, along with a harbourside seafood restaurant - a locals’ favourite. For an alternative way to spend the day, the cottage is perfectly located for touring Cornwall, including the south coast with its many historic houses and gardens. Enjoy visiting the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Caerhays Castle. The coastal road in north Cornwall leads to Padstow, home to Rick Stein’s culinary empire, and is a stunning, working fishing village. Explore St Ives, or Truro with its Gothic cathedral, theatre and narrow quaint lanes. Golf, horse riding, bike hire and water sports are all close by. Beach 5 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
