The cottage is within walking distance to the town centre and the terminus for the Ffestiniog Steam Railway and the beautiful Conwy Valley Railway Line to Betws-y-Coed and Llandudno. In addition, it is a 5-minute walk to the famous Llechwedd Slate Caverns complex, which comprises of the Victorian underground tours, the Antur Stiniog Mountain Bike Centre, Zip World (the largest zip zone in the world!), Bounce Below and World Below (the world’s largest zip line course, set in a vast series of historic mine chambers and tunnels!) - a truly magnificent subterranean experience! It is also in close proximity to Mount Snowdon, Betws-y-Coed, Portmeirion and Dolwyddelan Castle.
The cottage benefits from an original slate outhouse, renovated into a fully kitted drying/boot room with tumble dryer, drying racks, hooks/rails for equipment, as well as bike storage. There is also a separate traditional ’Ty Bach’ - outside toilet. It also boasts a lovely, fully enclosed slated garden, with flower beds and a secluded seated area where after a day’s activities, you can unwind and enjoy the mountain views, spot the ravens soaring overhead, and if you are lucky enough, a chough, and listen out for the ’toot’ of the Ffestiniog Railway resounding across the town. A perfect holiday base for walkers and climbers as numerous footpaths lead directly from the cottage, for all abilities. This includes exploring the town with its unique culture, leading high into the surrounding Moelwyn Mountains to many lakes, waterfalls, wild moorland and abandoned slate mining communities, all waiting to be discovered. You can also explore the Crimea Pass area. The cottage is an ideal base for dog owners as a track leads directly from the rear of the cottage to the open mountainside and small river, perfect for those early morning and late evening ’5-minute dog walks’! For outdoor enthusiasts looking for a bit extra - caving, white water rafting, canoeing, rock climbing, horse riding, bird watching, fishing and even train spotting are available. The Tanygrisiau Slabs are 5 minutes down the road and the National White Water Rafting Centre is a 40-minute drive away towards Bala. It is within easy driving distance to Porthmadog, the west Wales coastline with its sandy beaches, including Harlech, the Llyn Peninsula and a high concentration of historic castles throughout North West Wales and many Heritage steam railway lines. Whether it’s walking, climbing or biking in the mountains, exploring the Snowdonia villages, riding the railways, relaxing on the beach, or admiring the abundance of flora and fauna, this cosy holiday cottage offers an ideal base for discovering the rugged natural beauty of the Snowdonia National Park. It will leave many good memories. Shop and restaurant ½ mile, pub ¼ mile.
