Built in 1830 this elegant town house in the conservation area in Rye, is under 500 yards from the historic Landgate Arch, through which one had to pass at high tide in order to reach the mainland when Rye was an island. Accommodation is provided over three floors and the garden faces the town Salts, originally salt marshes and now home to the town cricket pitch, pull up your deckchair and enjoy a quintessentially English summer pastime. A house for all seasons, winter offers the opportunity to light the wood burner and relax. Take a stroll on the cobbled streets of this Cinque Port town which during the 18th century was known as the smuggling capital of England and see the old vaulted cellars where the contraband was once stored.
Explore the galleries and tea shops and discover for yourself what the great masters, JMW Turner, Van Dyck and James Whistler found so inspiring about the area. The autumn hails the bonfire season in 1066 country, where many towns and villages including Rye celebrate on different weekends with processions, bonfires and of course firework displays. Visit Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, the remains of Henry VIIIs Camber Castle and try kite surfing on the huge expanse of sand at Camber, canoe on the Rother or hike the 1066 Country Walk. Golf, fishing and bike hire are available locally. There are train connections from Rye to Hastings, Ashford and London for further sightseeing opportunities. Beach 3 miles. Shop 200 yards, pub 50 yards, restaurant 250 yards.
