Bay View

With glorious sea views, this wonderful Grade II listed Georgian house, located in the heart of Southwold, is set overlooking the seafront.  Perfect for families or friends, Bay View is also ideal for couples seeking a little more space in their seaside retreat.  Completely and lovingly restored to a very high standard in 2019, using muted Farrow & Ball colours; crisp, clean furnishings and beautiful fabrics from leading British designers, this former lighthouse keeper’s house offers simple, understated elegance which enhances the character and the many original architectural features of the house.  Beautiful original artworks, decorative mirrors, plantation shutters and bookshelves full of the classics add the finishing touches ensuring Bay View has an abundance of charm.

To the front of the house, making the most of the spectacular sea views, lies the welcoming and relaxing sitting room which benefits from an adjoining reading area overlooking the pretty garden; these rooms offer spacious comfort with an expansive, deep seated sofa, two upholstered armchairs, t.v., and cosy gas fire – perfect for lazy mornings or taking it easy after invigorating walks along the beach.

To the back of the house lies the kitchen and dining room.  The kitchen which has access to the garden, is equipped with a Nespresso coffee machine, a Dualit toaster and kettle, gas hob and cooker, a walk-in larder housing a full size fridge, separate freezer, microwave and ample storage space.  Traditional quarry tiles lead through to the characterful dining room, complete with a refectory table and seating for four – along with the original but out-of-service Victorian cooking range, one of the many authentic features of the house. Stepping inside the house from the private side passageway is the large boot room which also leads directly to the garden.  A neatly tucked away cloakroom can be found just off the boot room.

Upstairs there are two beautifully and individually decorated bedrooms both with large en-suite bathrooms.  The calm and airy master bedroom with breath-taking sea views offers a comfy super-king sized Savoir bed, plenty of storage and is decorated in an elegant, contemporary country style.  Relaxing in this idyllic room, soothed by the sound of the sea and gazing out over the water from the comfort of the bed is truly hard to beat.  The remarkably roomy and distinctly Victorian in style en-suite bathroom, with pretty views to the garden and lighthouse beyond, has been completely renovated to the highest standard providing ultimate luxury with a walk-in shower, separate full-sized bath, w.c., large hand basin, heated towel rail and under-floor heating,

The equally charming second bedroom, with a floor to ceiling height window overlooking the garden is neatly designed with two small single zip and link beds that can be reconfigured as a small double bed.  This bedroom has a matching fully renovated, large en-suite bathroom with walk-in shower, separate full sized bath, w.c., heated towel rail and under-floor heating. Upstairs is completed by a handy laundry room – with views of Southwold’s stunning bay, this fresh and airy room houses the washing machine and tumble dryer as well as a very useful butler’s sink.

The charming enclosed courtyard garden, which is entered either from the kitchen or boot room, is a real feature of this seaside retreat.  A sunny border has been planted with an array of cottage garden blooms and there is plenty of room for al fresco dining.  An outdoor bistro-style teak table and chairs allows guests to enjoy an evening glass of wine, a spot of lunch or just a relaxing start to the day with a coffee and the morning papers. The private gated passageway to the side of Bay View, with direct access to the house, offers space for bicycles and seaside buckets and spades.

This gem of a coastal retreat with it’s prime position and uninterrupted sweeping views across Southwold’s bay has both the beach and the town centre on the doorstep offering a wonderful holiday home for not only enjoying a Suffolk seaside break but also for exploring the picturesque town of Southwold and it’s fabulous collection of independent shops and restaurants  - perfect for a summer holiday or a cosy winter getaway.
