Runkerry Strand Beach

Runkerry Beach, also known locally as Bushfoot Strand, is a geological Area of Special Scientific Interest. It is one of the most exciting beach systems in Ireland with a combination of very strong waves and currents, attractive scenery and natural history. The beach extends eastwards from the mouth of the River Bush towards Runkerry House and the famous Giant's Causeway.

The beach can be accessed via a footpath from the main car park in Portballintrae, before crossing the 'Threequarter' Footbridge. You can walk along the boardwalk alongside Bushfoot Golf Course and through the sand dunes, before meeting the train tracks for the Bushmills Railway. A walk along here will lead you to the Giants Causeway. If you are in the area, it is well worth visiting the fabulous ladies that run ‘Mini Maegden’ (www.cheesemaegden.com)– a quirky caravan, located in a field adjacent to the Causeway, where you will enjoy Grilled cheese sandwiches, filled with locally sourced chorizo, blue cheese, and more.
