Mel’s Mutts

I am Melissa, 23 years old and I run Mel’s Mutts. I have always had a dream to have my own dog business, as I’ve always had such a passion for dogs since a young age. Mel’s Mutts started 2 years ago after I worked with rescue dogs in a kennel for 5 years, I decided that I wanted something that belonged to me when it comes to dogs so I took the jump and Mel’s Mutts was created! It was the best decision I made. I offer dog walking and sitting services, I stay in the owners’ home to provide overnight care for their babies! Within that time the owners get updates, photos, and a post card at the end of their stay. I take any dog on, no matter their past, temperament, size, breed, every dog deserves a chance - I work with a few reactive/anxious dogs and find it very rewarding when a bond is created with an anxious dog or when training has made a difference to a reactive dog, it gives my job another purpose. I do a lot of charity work for Pilgrims Hospice and last year I accepted the challenge of walking 250 miles (600,000 steps) in one month, this was a special challenge where every one of my regular dogs took part in and helped me every step of the way, with the help of their owners donating! After the month was over I managed to do nearly 300 miles and that was all down to my dogs. I am very proud of how Mel’s Mutts has progressed within two years. Not only the business but for myself as well, having this business has made me a lot more confident in myself and kept me motivated daily. I have been a part of different experiences such as participating in dog shows and even chaperoning dogs to their owner’s weddings! It is difficult to find the words to explain how important Mel’s Mutts is to me, but I am so grateful for each dog I have walked or looked after from the start, also for their lovely owners trusting me with their precious dogs. I believe in giving back to my loyal customers, every valentines, Easter and Halloween I do a competition and the winner receives a themed hamper with dog toys, treats and a little something for their owner. And of course every regular of mine receives Christmas presents!
