Reality Dog Training

Our Behavioural Training Classes focuses on the emotional bond between dog and owner. With emphasis on control, (settling, walking nicely on lead, recalling to owner and not jumping up), we instruct towards the achievement of Royal Kennel Club awards, promoting positive social etiquette, engagement through play and mental stimulation plus life skills to set dogs and their family contacts up for success. MultiSport is our low-level activity Class combining Rally and Hoopers with Agility tunnels, jumps and small-scale contact equipment. As such, this sport is appropriate for dogs aged over 8 months as does not involve the dynamic level of physical exertion associated with full-scale contact equipment so is not detrimental to muscular skeletal development and maintenance. Scentwork, sometimes called Nosework, is an activity where dogs are helped to use part of their natural behaviour and sniffing ability. Suitable for any breed type, age and activity level, including puppies and veterans whose natural dynamic exercise is restricted, dogs are trained within these Classes on how to find a scent, how to indicate a find and how to expand their known scents. Providing enormous satisfaction, scentwork can easily be incorporated within daily life of pet dogs. The enrichment helps to keep arousal levels low and thus promote feelings of calmness and relaxation. Gundog training is suited to almost any type of breed regardless of intention to work in the shooting field. However, some are more genetically predisposed with a desire to work and if we control that and turn it on when needed, our pet gundogs will have balanced, enriched lives. These Classes include the teaching of targeting, hand signals, distance control, whistle work and retrieves to hand. Mantrailing originated from search and rescue teams taking the natural ability of a dog’s nose and training them to follow an individual human’s scent trail, avoiding distractions until finding the person at the end of the trail. Being a low-impact, problem-solving activity providing mental and intellectual stimulation, these Classes are suitable for puppies, veterans, blind, deaf and disabled dogs as well as adolescent and adult dogs of any breed type. At Reality Dog Training we also provide supplementary education such as First Aid for Dogs and Dog Law seminars.
