Since launching Oh My Dog on Dyer Lane in Beverley, owner and former BBC Radio Humberside presenter Lucy Thompson was awarded ‘Entrepreneur of the year’ at the Hull & East Yorkshire People in Business Awards in 2022 and received an award as a 'commended' business at the 'Best of Beverley' Awards in 2024. Lucy describes Oh My Dog as, ‘a fun and welcoming atmosphere for dogs and owners. Whether it’s getting your dog to sit for a pic for the ‘gram on the mini chaise lounge or just popping by for a free treat from our treat jar and a friendly chat, shopping at Oh My Dog is an experience, not a transaction and I’m really proud of that'. ‘We’ve just reached our 3rd Birthday and I believe that 3 years in business really is something worth celebrating in this current climate!'. On discussing the challenges that small businesses face in the current climate Lucy said, ‘It’s difficult for everyone at the moment but especially for small businesses. Overheads are constantly rising, and people are spending less which for a small retail business is not an ideal combination but we are where we are and we continue to develop new ways to innovate. We launched a new website and Tiktok shop at the beginning of this year and we are continuously planning pop ups around our region and collaborating with other businesses to bring something different to our area. Last year we teamed up with the Butt Farm Pumpkin Patch to bring the regions first pumpkin picking events for dogs and also Hull Comedy festival to bring the UK's first ever Comedy event for dogs to the centre of Hull as part of the Hull Fringe.'. Oh My Dog celebrated 3 years in business in August 2024 with a 'Dog pool party' which featured a pool filled with water and balls for dogs to splash around in, pawsecco & pawty bags and a special guest appearance from Peggy The Hairless pug who plays the part of 'Dogpool' in the Marvel movie Deadpool & Wolverine. Peggy attended to meet and greet her fans and offer pawtographs in return for a charity donation., In just over 2 hours the event had raised £600 which has been split across local dog rescue charities.
