Around a 5min drive from M62 jct 22 The Rams Head Inn building is 450 years old and is 1212ft above sea level giving panoramic views over Saddleworth moors and Lancashire.
Inside are informal dining tables & chairs and real fires with a specific room where dogs are welcome. One of the original “gastro pubs” using Red Tractor assured meats, the freshest seafood and game in season. Food is often with a modern twist but some traditional favourites always available. Range of wines and champagnes, and hand pulled Real Ale.
There is also an onsite Farm & Wine shop, The Pantry, offering a wide range of local produce.

Dogs welcome inside, albeit only in certain areas, this was a lovely place to eat after taking advantage of one of the many nearby walking routes. Being so high on the moors it has wonderful views across the local landscape which on a warm sunny day (not a windy winter one!) can be enjoyed from the outdoor seating area.
That are various reservoirs close to the Rams Head Inn for those who enjoy circular walks; just be prepared for quite a bit of up & down as the surrounding terrain is anything but flat.
