Our Story...It's pretty long but still in progress. I have been a dog person since birth, as a child I loved dogs and anything dog related and as an adult nothing has changed. In 2011 I started my career working with animals as a pet groomer in my local vets practice, then in 2013 I set up my own business Pampered Pets Consett which has grown and evolved ever since. It all began with a table in my conservatory and dogs being washed in my bathtub and has evolved into a purpose built salon and store after lots of hard work and I am thrilled with how far we've come. I still love to learn about all things grooming, I'm constantly watching training seminars, reading articles and needing the latest tools. Our first addion first was a dog walking service which I absolutely love. That all began with 1 tiny husky puppy called Kalun who I still have the pleasure of walking along with his growing pack and he will always have a special place in my heart. We now walk 20 dogs (no, not all at once) and it's a new adventure every day and they love our treats! The next service we added was EmmiPet teeth services. This came about when my old girl Millie started to show some signs of mild gingivitis and a had a little plaque build up despite daily brushing. I didn't want to go down the surgical route due to Millies age so started to look for alternatives. There were 2 main choices on the market, EmmiPet and Cleany Teeth, both use the same technology, 1 just does it more efficiently and therefore more effectively. I instantly got in touch with the UK pioneer of EmmiPet, Karen, ordered my kit and booked my training sessions. This was the best decision I've ever made. This is what eventually led to the launch of Pampered Palates. I have fed all of my dogs a raw diet for many years and offered natural treats where I could but there wasn't much choice locally so often found myself hunting online where prices were often very high. It seemed the industry was aware there wasn't much choice and charged accordingly. I wanted to change that. I wanted to make the best quality treats available at affordable prices and have more than 3 treats to choose from. The health benefits are huge, that doesn't have to mean the price tag should be. To help keep costs down, we don't use fancy packets and recycle packaging boxes whenever we can. I scoured the country for suppliers and my dogs started their new roles as chief product testers (they definitely love their jobs) and a few months later Pampered Palates was born as a sister to Pampered Pets Consett. We started with just 30 treats on the menu and now, boast more than 100 natural treats. I am constantly on the hunt for new things and constantly expanding my knowledge. I only stock treats that I will feed by own dogs and anyone who knows me knows my kids have 4 paws and I love them with all my heart. I hold a diploma in Pet Nutrition and love constantly learning and refreshing. We also have some grooming products on our store, again I only sell products I first trial and continue to use. There's also some handmade items for your dogs which will be added soon. My mother taught me the basics of how to sew many years ago and like everything I do, I just kept learning. I still have fond memories of the 2 of us working away until the early hours in a mad rush to finish making dance costumes in time for show days and I'm sure she'll watch down proudly as I sit at my machines and laugh as I shout at the thread when it snaps. In 2023 we decided it was the right time to take our business to the next level and open our retail premises. We now have the room to stock so much more than treats. You can find raw food for a variety of pets. A huge selection of toys and enrichment products. We are also catering to cats, birds, small furries, aquatics and reptiles.
