Westholme - A Dog-Friendly Cottage in the Heart of Swaledale 

If your idea of the perfect dog-friendly holiday is stepping out of your front door and straight onto some of the Yorkshire Dales' finest walking country, Westholme could be just the place for you. 

Nestled in the peaceful village of Thwaite in beautiful Swaledale, Westholme is a cosy traditional cottage just yards from the Pennine Way. With miles of footpaths, tracks and open countryside surrounding the village - it's a fantastic base for exploring the Dales with your four-legged friends. 

Westholme sleeps up to four guests in two comfortable bedrooms - a small double bedroom and a larger master bedroom with a double bed. The master bedroom has an ensuite shower room, while there is also a separate WC on the ground floor. Downstairs, the cottage has a cosy and welcoming feel with characterful wooden beams, wooden flooring and a rustic open fire in the living room. There's a TV with built-in DVD player, a selection of books and a fold-out dining table - making it an inviting place to relax after a day out walking.  The charming, light-filled kitchen is well equipped for preparing everything from a quick breakfast before heading out onto the trails to a hearty meal after a day exploring Swaledale. Please note that there is currently no washing machine or tumble dryer at the cottage.  Free Wi-Fi is provided, although mobile phone signal can be limited - something that comes with being tucked away in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.   

Westholme doesn't have its own garden, but dogs are very welcome. Adjacent grassy common land provides a convenient place for a quick toilet break or responsible exercise, while the real attraction is the incredible walking country right outside the door. There are miles of paths and tracks around Thwaite, with plenty of opportunities to get out and explore together. A walker's and dog's paradise 

We genuinely love dogs, and Westholme is set up to make them feel part of the family. Up to three dogs are welcome with no additional charge and no restrictions on where they can go inside the cottage. We also provide extra throws for the furniture so your dogs can settle down and relax in comfort after their adventures. More dogs may be possible by prior arrangement. 

There is parking for one vehicle directly outside the cottage, with additional roadside parking nearby. A single garage just a few metres away is also available for storing bicycles and other belongings. 

Westholme's location is ideal for walkers or those who like to explore on foot with the Pennine Way passing through Thwaite, while the Coast to Coast Path and the popular 52-mile Herriot Way are also within easy reach. From the doorstep, you can explore some of the very best of Swaledale without having to jump in the car. The villages of Muker, Keld and Gunnerside are just a short distance away, while nearby highlights include Kisdon Force, Wain Wath Falls, the famous Muker Meadows and Buttertubs Pass. 

Whether you want to spend your days walking the trails, exploring with your dog, discovering traditional Dales villages or simply sitting beside the open fire with tired paws and muddy boots drying nearby, Westholme offers a wonderfully authentic Swaledale experience.
