Location is everything with this 5* Gold award-winning New Forest cottage. It’s in a wonderfully remote spot near the village of Godshill, surrounded by the famous free-roaming ponies, deer and plentiful woodland creatures and birds as your only neighbours.

The New Forest is well-known for its stunning scenery, and this cottage takes full advantage of its surroundings. It’s set on the banks of the crystal clear chalk stream waters of the Hampshire Avon River with 1100m of private fishing on one of the best coarse and fly fishing rivers in the country. Tutorage can be arranged if you’re a novice wanting to learn how to fish or would like to hone your rod action!

The well-kept ¾ acre garden is pure bliss to unwind and relax after a day’s adventures and features three pretty spring-fed ponds, a swing and hammock. The large wrap-around sun terrace is home to a BBQ and plenty of garden furniture to while away the days and watch swans glide by, and otters play in the river.

Inside is packed with personality and opulence by the bucket load with antique and one-off pieces of beautiful furniture which stand on underfloor heated stone floors and solid wood floorboards decked in artisan rugs under vaulted ceilings. You enter the property through a utility room which leads to a hand-painted fitted kitchen and dining room. The living room has a large inglenook open log fire, a TV, DVD player and French doors leading onto the terrace and big comfy sofas on hand to soak up the gorgeous views.

There are one king-size bedroom and one double bedroom in the main house. Plus, an additional ensuite twin bedroom with a TV a few steps from the main house in the separate Fishing Lodge which also has a sun terrace overlooking the river – perfect for elderly parents or teens wanting their own space.

Forest walks and cycle paths run from the front door and golf, horse riding and good eating pubs and restaurants are close by. Two dog-friendly pubs are within easy walking distance.

Within a short drive is the magnificent Elizabethan manor house at Breamore, as well as the New Forest Water Park. The cathedral city of Salisbury to see the Magna Carta and retail therapy in the city’s swish boutiques is just six miles away. For petrol-heads, Beaulieu National Motor Museum is a must, and it’s less than an hour to blue-flag award, golden sandy beaches, Highcliffe Castle, cliff top walks and King Henry VIII’s coastal fortress, Hurst Castle.

Allow a full-day for visiting the Isle of Wight, Corfe Castle, Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
