The Green Lodge Aviemore

Dogs: 2

Sleeps: 8

At the heart of the Cairngorms National Park in the sought-after destination of the Rothiemurchus estate, The Green Lodge Aviemore awaits your visit. The Green Lodge welcomes one or two well behaved dogs, and offers a secure, enclosed garden at the back of the lodge, and an outside tap for hosing off the worst of the mud. We provide an emergency supply of dog towels in case you forgot, as well as a dog bed, blanket and bowl. There are wonderful walks all over the National Park, but one loop in particular is perfect for that early morning or late afternoon dog walk. Leaving the Green Lodge, you just cross the road and plunge into the woods, going through the most glorious and varied scenery with breathtaking views of the Cairngorms. Find your home-made map in the doggy welcome basket. Built in 2017, this superbly comfortable pet-friendly lodge sleeps eight people and has been furnished to the exacting standards of its hill-walking, mountain-biking owners. Sure, the beautiful woodland location can’t be beaten. But it doesn’t stop there: the Green Lodge has been furnished with the best of everything that you need to make this a holiday you will absolutely love, from the coffee machine that helps you make the perfect cappuccino to the wood fired pizza oven for creative cooks, from the map wall to help you plan your active days to the blissful supersized beds to give you a heavenly night’s sleep. You will be hard pressed to choose between the many activities on your doorstep, especially when it means tearing yourself away from the families of red squirrels and woodpeckers that are daily visitors to the garden. Step out of the door onto the Old Logging Way and start your adventures on foot or by bike, or take a short drive to one of many iconic Scottish Highland golf courses nearby. Potter through the woods with the kids to the nearby climbing wall, swimming pool, zip wires and tennis courts, or grab lunch at the local farm shop and cafe. Eating and Drinking at the Green Lodge You may not plan to eat in every meal, but when you do, you’ll find everything you need. With generous supplies of china, cutlery and glassware and a well-equipped kitchen, there are all the appliances you’d expect such as an oven, microwave, hob, kettle, toaster, dishwasher, along with staples such as tea, coffee, sugar, olive oil, salt and pepper. And sharp knives – with a sharpener for those for whom it matters. There’s other stuff you might not expect, like a slow cooker, so you can throw stuff in it in the morning and come back from your bike ride to a meltingly good casserole, and a herb garden planted up for you to use – help yourself to rosemary, thyme and sage, and in summer parsley, dill, coriander and basil. Depending on the season of your visit, there might be alpine strawberries, tomatoes, or apples to pick. Then there’s the Heston Blumenthal Sage Oracle Touch coffee machine, that makes your choice of latte, flat white, cappuccino, espresso or long black – and froths the milk for delicious hot chocolate too. It’s easy to master, and I’ve put a video here showing how to use it. Outside in the garden, of course there’s the barbecue – both charcoal and gas, you choose which you prefer. What isn’t standard is the freestanding wood fired pizza oven – it makes the most heavenly pizzas (and roasts), and is just the thing to tempt those who don’t usually cook into feats of culinary deliciousness. Whether you're out walking, cycling or golfing you'll want to relax when you get back to the Green Lodge. The living room seats eight on comfy sofas and armchairs, with footstools so you can get into your perfect position. Gather and watch the flames play in the wood burning stove, or choose a film from our selection of some 700 on our 47" smart TV. Kids wanting a separate chilling space congregate on the bean bags in the top hall - with lots of plugs for their devices there'll be no arguments over the charger. Outside we've got comfortable seating both at the south facing herb terrace - a positive sun trap and a great spot for morning coffee with the papers (pick them up from the Hilton, just a short walk through the woods) - and in the back garden, which gets the sun for the whole of the afternoon and evening.
