If you'd like more of an activity holiday for yourselves or your children there is plenty to do. Being close to the river Wye and in the Forest of Dean offers many opportunities for trying fun activities such as kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, rock climbing, gorge scrambling, rafting, bushcraft  archery. Visit one of the 2 Go Ape centres close by.

Or visit Puzzlewood an enchanted forest, a popular filming location, Clearwell caves.

Or take a 85 min scenic journey on a steam train through the Forest of Dean or for younger children the Perrygrove railway both dog friendly.

If you like history there are 2 cathedrals Gloucester and Hereford not far (17/18 miles away), 4 castles Goodrich (just 5 miles away), Monmouth (6 miles away), Raglan (9 miles away) and Usk (13 miles away) and of course Tintern Abbey (9 miles away).

Rowan Tree Retreat is an exceptionally well-equipped single storey holiday home which sleeps 4 plus baby (one travel cot provided). Guests can enjoy the cedar hot tub in private setting in the garden surrounded by the forest.

There is comfortable parking for 2 cars off road (but can fit three). The garden uniquely has direct access to the forest walks. We're happy for up to 2 well-behaved dogs to stay. The property has fast WiFi & Smart TV

Rowan Tree Cottage has a warm comfortable sitting room with 2 large sofas and a smart TV. There is underfloor heating throughout the cottage. The well-equipped kitchen, dining area and sitting area are open plan with a high oak beamed ceiling.

A totally enclosed garden is surrounded by hedges/fencing with a garden table and chairs, BBQ and a hot tub. The hot tub is surrounded by forest trees and open to beautiful skies. Walk straight out of garden gate into Forest of Dean and down to and along the picturesque river Wye, many scenic walks with your dog/s. We have an EV charger.

From the garden gate walk straight into the Forest of Dean with its acres of ancient forest to explore and walk down to the picturesque River Wye. A great place to stay and to enjoy the great outdoors in the wide open spaces. Ideal for walking, cycling, outdoor activities for all ages. A wonderful place to stay for a dog friendly holiday.
The ideal place to enjoy the wide open spaces and return to the hot tub to relax and unwind beneath the stars, a true Forest retreat.
Road directions
Situated in a semi rural  forest location yet easily accessible and is on the border with Wales. Close to towns for shopping, Monmouth and Ross on Wye. Walks are accessed directly from the garden. There are multiple Forest walks as well as direct walks to Symonds Yat view point & to the River Wye. The famous Saracens Head Pub is within walking distance along the river or from the view point at Symonds Yat. There are 2 very close dog friendly pubs within walking distance too.

From Coleford/Berry Hill/Christchurch side take the road signposted to Hillersland/Symonds Yat roak. You will go past a 40mph and soon after there is a smaller 40mph sign and Rowan tree retreat is immediately on the left hand side after the second smaller 40mph sign. It is opposite Barn Cottage and next door to Peacehaven Cottage. The postcode GL16 7NY will take you too far down the road to Folly lane a tight right turn on the right by a phone box. If you get that far turn back and we are on the right just before the 30mph sign.
