Orchard Cottage

This detached house is situated in the little village of Stoke two miles from Hartland. Dating from the 16th century and Grade II listed, this characterful house has been lovingly restored and has the bonus of a splendid indoor swimming pool accessed via a lockable door from the kitchen area. From the practical hall, head through to the sitting room with its traditional beams, wood burning stove in an inglenook fireplace and a large dining table. You also have the bonus of a second sitting room where you can sit quietly to read the papers or a good book. The kitchen is well equipped and has useful stable doors to throw open to a patio on fine days. There are two ground floor bedrooms, or head upstairs to a choice of three further comfortable bedrooms. Children will have a fabulous time here, with the lovely indoor pool which has decking looking across the garden, as well as a games room where they can play table tennis and pool. The garden itself is enclosed and equipped with a barbecue and small lawn. Stroll through the woods of Hartland Abbey, which once owned this house, to reach the sea with its spectacular cliffs topped with the South West Coast Path, a lighthouse at Hartland Point and great bird watching. You can take fishing trips from famous car-free cobbled Clovelly village or head to fabulous surf beaches at Westward Ho! or Bude. Alternatively, you may not want to venture further than this lovely house and the village of Hartland where you can shop, visit three pubs and sometimes explore the Abbey where Sense and Sensibility was filmed. Orchard Cottage is a comfortable base with something for all the family to enjoy.
