Marley Cottage

Sleeps: 6

Nestling at the foot of the famous Porlock Hill is the attractive village of Porlock, with old thatched cottages and a good selection of shops, cafés and restaurants, between the wild moorland of Exmoor and the sea. Porlock Hill, a 25% (1 in 4) incline, was first ascended by motor car in 1900 by a noted rally driver of the time, who won a £50 wager in the process - there is now a very scenic toll road avoiding the hill! In Porlock, tucked away in a narrow lane behind the 13th century church, Marley Cottage is in a secluded yet central location. Dating back to the late Victorian era, this end-of-row cottage was originally built for local boat builders and their families. Inside, the cottage is stylish and welcoming. Furnished to create an inviting holiday home, the open-plan living/dining room, which has a wood burning stove, has comfortable sofas and smart oak dining table/chairs. Upstairs are three bedrooms; two pretty double rooms and a twin, sleeping up to a maximum of five guests. To the front is a small south-facing sitting-out area, surrounded by mature shrubs and trees, across which, in typical nineteenth century fashion, the adjoining cottages have right of access. Whether walking, cycling, riding, fishing or simply exploring Exmoor and its pretty villages, Marley Cottage is ideally placed to enjoy this beautiful part of Somerset.
