Kate, September 2022

To start with I need to say please don’t book this property!

Firstly, after a 4 hour drive we approached Scarborough and turned into what I can only describe as a very deprived and run down housing estate. We pulled up to the property which was fine from the outside but stepping outside of the car the pavement was littered with rubbish and dog excrement. We had to carry our baby’s pram and luggage over it all to avoid any mess.

The property itself was ok. Having read the description that the property was ‘located in the centre of the wonderful seaside town’ and was just ‘a few minutes walk into the centre’ we decided to go and have a walk. Again dodging the dog excrement and litter along the streets we followed the map on our phone and found it actually took 20 minutes to walk into the centre.

Once we got back to the property we decided we weren’t going to stay but it was a long drive back so needed to rest so stayed for the night. The night consisted of a number of motorbikes being rode up and down the street with lots of shouting and noise.

We made our complaint with the letting agent Ingrid Flutes Yorkshire cottages who looked into it and spoke to the owners who said the complaint didn’t warrant any partial refund or compensation as there was nothing wrong with the property.

My complaint is that the property has been falsely advertised as ‘being in the centre of the wonderful seaside town’ and ‘a few minutes walk into the centre’ It does not state however, that it’s in the centre of a very deprived and run down area which should be stated so people know they aren’t staying in such a wonderful place.

I believe when spending over £1000 it should be stated clearly that the property is in a deprived area because that would definitely have influenced my decision in booking this property.

Please do not waste your money on this property as the owner makes false advertisements, you will be utterly disappointed.
