Every hospitality venue in cockermouth welcomes dogs which I’ve never experienced elsewhere. The open spaces to exercise your dog is also so close to the town which makes it incredibly dog friendly.

When I lived out of cockermouth I was always so happy to see so many people able to go out with their dogs and it’s be accessible in shops and other places as well as many lovely places to walk without being discouraged.I have since moved to Cockermouth and it’s one of the most dog friendly communities I have every known and I have even made friends with other dog walkers as a result.the shops have water stops for the dogs and most business even carry bod treats for furry clients.

Cockermouth is such a lovely town for walking your dog! Most of the cafes and shops are dog friendly, there are lots of water bowls out for if your dog needs a drink and there are multiple parks to let your dog run around and play!

It is a town where every animal is welcome- human and four legged! The type that bark for communication are particularly welcome in all of our non food shops and cafes, bars restaurants and venues. We have a lot of residents pooches but see huge numbers of visiting canines as their owners know there will be a warm welcome all round!

So many doggy walking routes! The parks and passages are beautiful for doggy enrichment and their owners eyes/senses! Pretty much ALL businesses allow (and encourage) dogs in and there will always be a dog treat/pup cup available. So many dogs of all breeds for your doggy to say hello and share pee-mails with. shops & services specifically for doggies in town. And having the fabulous fells, hills and mountains on the doorstep is amazing for routine top quality walks for yourself and your doggy. Cockermouth also has a dedicated Cockermouth dog of the week/month on the social medias to celebrate each individual local Cockermouth Town dog.

Apart from the green spaces and rivers which are great for dogs, the town itself has a host of inviting places that welcome dogs, from pubs and eating places, to bookshops and charity shops and a shop dedicated to canines (Waggy Woofers). Cockermouth is an amazing town and virtually all the shops and cafe’s are doggie friendly - one Beatford’s (now Lowther Lounge Cafe) even gave my little dog Millie’s her own cushion to sit on and a biscuit each time we went. Rendezvous is another where Millie is especially welcomed with her own ‘hello’ and a dog biscuit. It makes such a difference to be able to take my best friend with me when I go shopping. Cockermouth Town is a warm and welcoming place for the local and furry visitors! Cafes and pubs for them to visit, parks for them to run around and it isn't too busy so they are not overwhelmed. I manage a local animal charity shop Oak Tree Animals Charity and I always make sure there is fresh water a selection of buscuits a warm welcome and a fully stocked dog section for my best customers to grab a bargain lead, harness, new jacket or a toy. The best part of my job is seeing my yearly fluff balls coming for a return holiday to my lovely home town.
